In which the Writer is hired to write a sci-fi TV pilot

Sci-fi. I love it. Many of my favourite screen moments are full-on science fiction. Aliens. Predator. Terminator. Dr Who.

I’ve just been hired by to write a pilot for the TV series SENTIENT. Think Invasion of the Body-Snatchers meets The Walking Dead.

I think it’s going to be rather good.

Sentient is a multi-franchised operation run by Presence Global Entertainment in Australia, with variants in development in the USA, Germany, Australia, Russia and Africa. I’m writing the UK version. It will be set in the beautiful Lake District, in Cumbria. Expect scenery. (And aliens.)

Watch this space.

In which the Writer attends the Berlin Film Festival

The Berlinale (Berlin Film Festival) and the associated European Film Market are collectively the most important European film business event after Cannes. I’ll be there this year, jointly pitching some horror and sci-fi projects with several producers from the UK, Canada and Italy, and also looking to make contacts for my own genre spec scriptsIf you’re attending the EFM 2018 and want to meet up, send me a message via the contact page or LinkedIn.

In which THE DRAGON RIDER is a finalist in the We Screenplay Screenwriting Competition

THE DRAGON RIDER is now a finalist in the We Screenplay International Competition.
Clearly the judges like scripts where a dragon loaded with missiles flies in formation with the USAF and headbutts an alien mothership.
I know I do.

In which the Author coaxes a screenplay out of its shell….

I’m currently coaxing a spec sci-fi feature screenplay to move from the 4th to the 5th draft. Then I’ll hopefully start on the marketing. Here’s a hint of what it’s about:

PS The website has been spring cleaned. You’d be amazed what I found behind the furniture. Anyway, it’s neater now, I think.

In which the Author is a quarter-finalist in the Stage 32 New Blood scriptwriting contest…

blood list

It’s called RIDERS ON THE STORM. It’s a sci-fi destruction thriller themed round an alien invasion and the er…

somewhat unusual resistance deployed by we Earthlings. And the feature-length screenplay is one of the quarter

finalists in the New Blood scriptwriting contest run by Stage 32 and the Blood List.

This high-profile Hollywood scriptwriting competition describes itself thus: “Our exclusive panel of industry judges

are looking for scripts in all areas of horror, thriller, and suspense…  All finalists will be listed in a special section of The Blood List and be exposed to top industry execs.”

I’m quite pleased about this.

The full list can be found here. I’m under ‘G’.
