The Berlinale (Berlin Film Festival) and the associated European Film Market are collectively the most important European film business event after Cannes. I’ll be there this year, jointly pitching some horror and sci-fi projects with several producers from the UK, Canada and Italy, and also looking to make contacts for my own genre spec scripts. If you’re attending the EFM 2018 and want to meet up, send me a message via the contact page or LinkedIn.
I’m delighted to announce I’ve been awarded the July 2017 full scholarship for the Rocaberti Castle Writers Retreat, which takes place in a castle in Spain in company with mentors from the upper levels of film, TV and publishing.
Very pleased to report that my contained supernatural horror THE DEVIL’S ANSWER has been optioned by Two Tribes, a production company based in Los Angeles.
The logline: In a remote, snowbound prison run by a totalitarian regime, a dedicated torturer starts to believe that his mysterious, single prisoner is the Devil himself.
The script was found on InkTip. Two Tribes are a new production company, and are now raising finance for a slate of three films including THE DEVIL’S ANSWER.
This is my second option this year for a low-budget horror screenplay.
To Hollywood and beyond!
My sci-fi script THE DRAGON RIDER has won Honorable Mention (4th Place) in the WeScreenplay International Screenplay Competition.
A few comments from the judges:
“This is a terrific piece that does an excellent job of making the impossible probable. The core of the story is strong and offers a truly exciting adventure.”
“Filled with chair gripping action, The Dragon Rider is a fun yet somewhat campy fantasy romp with a cast of unique characters who manage to stand out while not upstaging our protagonist. Sigourney Weaver like heroine Jane is nicely complex, dark yet likable, helping give body to an extremely enjoyable tale.”
Sadly I’m on the other side of the Atlantic so I won’t be able to attend the winners’ knees-up in LA. Them’s the breaks.
If you are a film industry professional and would like to read the script, please get in touch here.

THE DRAGON RIDER is now a finalist in the We Screenplay International Competition.
Clearly the judges like scripts where a dragon loaded with missiles flies in formation with the USAF and headbutts an alien mothership.
I know I do.
