I am currently working on a book entitled Poltergeist over Scotland: 500 Years of Scottish ‘noisy ghosts’. I intend to catalogue and describe as many cases as possible, from the 1600s to the present day.
I already have notes on a swathe of both well-known and relatively obscure cases from Aberdeenshire to Argyll and from Glasgow to Galloway, but if anyone has personal knowledge of poltergeist occurrences anywhere north of the border (e.g. through family ties, or stories you heard as a child) I would be most interested to hear the details. The more information you can provide – location, dates, descriptions, witnesses etc. – the better.
Poltergeist incidents can be just a one-off occurrence or can last for some time. For the sake of clarity, if the events principally involve apparitions (visible ghosts), or the repetitive sound of footsteps, etc., then that would not count as a poltergeist.
Any correspondent whose story makes it to the book can choose to be anonymous if they wish.
Poltergeist over Scotland: 500 Years of Scottish ‘noisy ghosts’ will be published by The History Press in November 2012.
