In which the Author talks about poltergeists on YouTube…

To mark the fact that I’ve got two books on poltergeists coming out, a series of interviews with the humble if prolix author have been posted on that there YouTube.

The interviews concentrate on both the ebook What is a Poltergeist? – Understanding Poltergeist Activity and the conventional book Poltergeist Over Scotland. For the former, which will be available for download soon, I discuss the nine different theories/beliefs that have been put forward over the centuries to explain poltergeists:

  1. Demons
  2. Witchcraft
  3. Ghosts
  4. Fairies
  5. Vampires
  6. Psychokinesis (powers of the mind)
  7. Tulpas (thoughtforms)
  8. Hoaxes
  9. Natural forces (electromagnetism, geomagnetism, earth movements etc.)

These are illustrated with cases from throughout the world, including America, Europe and Asia.

When discussing Poltergeist over Scotland I talk about some of the 134 cases I’ve uncovered over the past 400 years. This is the first ever history of Scottish poltergeists.

The interview clips are being released in 16 parts over the next week or so, both on this website here and on YouTube. Collect the set!

In which the Author gives a talk at Abernethy Museum…

On Wednesday 3 October I’ll be the guest of the Auld Abernethy Association at the Museum of Abernethy. The talk is entitled  ‘Mysterious Perthshire’ and will concentrate on the historical and contemporary mysteries of south-east Perthshire, with examinations of local witchcraft stories, tales of bodysnatching in the area, and the modern puzzle of big cats in Scotland. For details and directions see http://villagecrier.co.uk/auld_abernethy_association.html and http://museumofabernethy.co.uk. As usual, I’ll have a table groaning with books for sale.

In which the author is interviewed on the Ginger Nuts of Horror…

Jim McLeod’s blog The Ginger Nuts of Horror is chock-full of reviews and interviews relating to the horror and dark fiction genres. Jim kindly asked me for an interview, and my inchoate responses can be found at

Warning: the ramblings include a rant about mayonnaise, a Frank Zappa quote, and a truly awful joke about Mars. You have been warned.

The rest of Jim’s site [http://thegingernutcase.blogspot.co.uk/] is worth checking out as well.

In which the Author is interviewed in the Daily Mail…

Following on from last weekend’s piece in the Sunday Herald, it’s the turn of the Daily Mail to do a piece on Haunted St Andrews. The two-page article appeared on Saturday 14 July and can be read here, courtesy of the Daily Mail and the journalist, Jim McBeth. I’ll be doing a book signing at J & G Innes in St Andrews on Saturday 21 July.

In which the author pleads for poltergeists in the Daily Record…

On Saturday 9 June Glasgow’s Daily Record had a two-page spread on my quest for poltergeist witnesses from two Glaswegian cases in 1961 (Partick) and 1978 (Mosspark). The stories had been covered in the city’s newspapers of the time, and I appealed for anyone involved to come forward with what they recalled of the events. The stories will feature in Poltergeist Over Scotland, which will be published in November. I’ve already collected over 120 documented cases for this history of Scottish poltergeists, so it’s shaping up to be a belter.

If anyone does wish to get in touch on the subject of poltergeist experiences or other topics, please use the email contact form here.
